About the Role

Position Overview:
The Paw Trainer will play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being and adoptability of our dogs through positive reinforcement training techniques. Responsibilities:

Training Programs:
-Develop and implement positive reinforcement training programs for dogs with varying behavioral needs, including basic obedience, socialization, and enrichment activities.
-Work closely with sanctuary staff to assess and address specific behavioral challenges of individual dogs.

Behavioral Assessments:
-Conduct behavioral assessments to evaluate the temperament and needs of incoming dogs.
-Provide recommendations for training and enrichment plans tailored to each dog's unique requirements.

Training Sessions:
-Conduct one-on-one and group training sessions with dogs, focusing on building positive relationships and reinforcing desired behaviors.
-Collaborate with volunteers and staff to ensure consistency in training approaches.

Adoption Support:
-Provide guidance and training resources to potential adopters, helping them understand and address any behavioral challenges.
-Offer post-adoption support to ensure successful transitions to new homes.

Documentation and Reporting:
-Maintain accurate records of each paw's training progress and behavioral history.
-Report any concerns or notable observations to the sanctuary staff.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Pet Trainer with a strong foundation in positive reinforcement techniques.

  • Certification in dog training or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Deep understanding of dog behavior and the ability to tailor training plans to individual needs.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
