Position Overview:
The Pet Nutritionist will play a pivotal role in enhancing the health and vitality of our animals through specialized nutritional expertise. Responsibilities:
Nutritional Assessments:
-Conduct nutritional assessments for animals in our care, considering their age, health status, and individual dietary needs.
-Collaborate with veterinary staff to address specific nutritional requirements for animals with medical conditions.
Diet Planning:
-Develop and implement balanced and species-appropriate diets for a variety of animals, ensuring their nutritional needs are met.
-Provide dietary recommendations for animals with special dietary considerations, including seniors, puppies, and animals with dietary restrictions.
Education and Training:
-Educate staff, volunteers, and potential adopters on the importance of proper nutrition for animals.
-Conduct training sessions on basic pet nutrition, diet management, and the role of nutrition in overall well-being.
Collaboration with Veterinarians:
-Work closely with the veterinary team to integrate nutrition plans into overall health and wellness programs.
-Provide nutritional guidance for animals recovering from illness or surgery.
Documentation and Reporting:
-Maintain accurate records of each animal's dietary history and nutritional plans.
-Report any concerns or notable observations to the sanctuary staff.
Requirements
Degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Nutrition, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Pet Nutritionist, preferably in a shelter or rescue environment.
In-depth knowledge of pet nutrition, including different dietary requirements for various species and life stages.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
